Maarten Devoldere’s solo project has been known for years for its refined, dandyish pop. With The Donkey, his fifth studio album, he takes a new step: for the first time, he fully gives in to something more primal. The refined sound makes way for a rawer energy. Songs like Simple Pleasures and The Baby show two different sides. Simple Pleasures has a sense of stylish elegance, while The Baby bursts with an energy that feels more like a night in a club.

Warhaus refuses to choose between these two sides. On stage, he draws from the new material on The Donkey, combined with refined pop songs and familiar classics from the Warhaus repertoire. During his shows, the line between ecstasy and exhaustion begins to disappear.
