The Wombats
Twenty Years Of A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation
Indie rock that turns inner struggles into movement. Light on the surface, raw at its core.
The Liverpool trio Matthew ‘Murph’ Murphy, Tord Øverland Knudsen and Dan Haggis made their debut in 2007 with A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation. The album established the band as a fixture of the late-2000s British indie scene.
From there, the band continued to grow with each release. The Modern Glitch (2011) broke into the UK Top 10. Years later, Greek Tragedy, from Glitterbug (2015), found a second life on social media. The track went viral, introducing the band to a new generation of listeners.
On their sixth album, Oh! The Ocean, the band embraces a warmer, more human sound. Working with producer John Congleton, the trio spent six weeks recording in Echo Park, Los Angeles. They played each song in full takes, deliberately leaving imperfections intact. The result moves between tropical pop, falsetto funk and shimmering disco.
Murph sings openly about anxiety, depression and addiction. That honesty makes the music as relatable as it is compelling.
