White On Blonde 30th Anniversary

Texas is celebrating 40 years with the album that made the band big. On White On Blonde, pop, soul and trip-hop come together to create a sound of their own. The album is being reissued, for the first time on vinyl and featuring a brand-new track.

In 1997, at the height of Britpop, Texas took a different direction. Sharleen Spiteri and Johnny McElhone recorded the album at Spiteri’s home in Glasgow, with the vocals laid down in the coat cupboard. Their love of soul and trip-hop grew into a string of radio hits, including Say What You Want, Halo and Black Eyed Boy. The album went straight to number one, spawned five top 10 singles and sold more than four million copies.

That these songs have never gone away became clear at Glastonbury 2023. Playing between Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys, Texas took to the Pyramid Stage for an hour of hit after hit, delivering one of the weekend’s highlights. The band then embarked on the biggest arena tour of their career. A new generation is discovering their music, too: CMAT has covered Inner Smile, while Fred again.. closes his sets with it.

The new track, Another Way To Cry, is packed with brass and strings, drawing inspiration from Northern Soul. Blending classics with new material, Texas brings it all to Gashouder.
