Orbital
Other
Few acts have shaped British electronic music as profoundly as Orbital. Now the brothers return with Other, their eleventh and most ambitious studio album to date.
Hailing from Kent, Paul and Phil Hartnoll brought the energy of the underground rave scene of the 1990s to major festival stages, helping electronic music evolve into a fully-fledged live experience. Their legendary performance at Glastonbury in 1994 was officially released on record for the first time this year.
On Other, Orbital explores themes of otherness, neurodiversity, identity and the freedom to live beyond society’s boxes. Musically, the duo moves between gothic folk, drum and bass, punk and ambient, with their signature electronic sound serving as the common thread. Lead single Mother, Maiden & Crone sets the tone with a tribute to witchcraft and folklore, driven by gothic synths and the spellbinding vocals of actress Maxine Peake.
The album follows Optical Delusion (2023), which saw Orbital return to the UK top 10 for the first time since The Middle of Nowhere (1999). After all these years, their punk attitude remains very much alive. Orbital refuses to be boxed in, bringing that uncompromising spirit to the Gashouder.
