JPEGMAFIA
Experimental Rap Tour
Barrington DeVaughn Hendricks, better known as JPEGMAFIA, works at the edges of hip-hop. Trap, noise, punk and gospel effortlessly come together in his music. With his new album Experimental Rap, released in May 2026, he rarely settles into a single genre.
Experimental Rap, his sixth album, consists of 25 tracks that he wrote, produced and mixed entirely himself. The album pushes the boundaries of hip-hop, with sharp, provocative lyrics and a boundary-pushing approach.
The singles “¥ (Yen)” and “$ (Money)” were released ahead of the album. Both tracks explore obsession, power and paranoia surrounding wealth, with raw productions that combine electronic textures, ranging from dubstep to EDM, with rapid-fire lyrics.
Barrington developed his sound during four years in the US Air Force. While stationed in Japan and the Middle East, he released music under the name Devon Hendryx. After his discharge in 2015, Barrington moved to Baltimore, where he released his debut album Black Ben Carson the following year. With Veteran (2018) and All My Heroes Are Cornballs (2019), he became one of the most closely watched names in experimental hip-hop.
